A Ballet Story takes as its starting point the ballet Zephyrtine, by David Chesky. However, it is not a theatrical representation or an illustration of the original story – the exercise was one of abstraction and originated from the movement of bodies in space in conjunction with the music. There are no fairy tales, nor elements of the marvelous or the fantastic. The moral is different, the outcome, distinct. In A Ballet Story I do not know if the story adapts to the music or if the dance adapts to the story. The narrative will be crafted by each viewer (or not). It is not a linear articulation between music, narrative, and dance, but rather a process of mutual influences and elective affinities that give rise to a piece that can be manipulated in various ways and, as far as possible, remains whole.
