Morro Amanhã (2016)

This piece emerged as part of choreographer Sol Garcia’s final graduation project, developed in collaboration with ESD, ESML, and ESTC of IPL, along with DGPC.

The initial theme revolved around the concepts of icon and death, using the image and significance of the National Pantheon as a starting point.

In the first phase, the composer, inspired by the Pantheon’s space and its symbolic meaning, created a musical composition that serves as a kind of reflection—an exploration of the word icon, which in Greek means image. An icon is always connected to the object, form, or idea it represents, manifesting as a sacred, symbolic, or even metaphorical image. Iconic representations exist in every culture, decoded through acoustic, visual, olfactory, and sensory experiences—always deeply personal and subjective.

However, through choreographic research and an artistic residency, the artist realized that the theme extends far beyond historical and past references to human-made icons. More than just honoring a constructed icon, it became essential to strip it of physical and material identity, reimagining it as an ethereal presence—a soul, a person—one that also fades and disappears, remaining only in the memory of those who feel it.

This shift in perspective led to a redefinition of the initial concept, removing the original scenic identity and transferring all symbolism to the dancer’s body—a body that floats in the void.
