“Vanilla is a spice used as a flavoring, derived from orchids of the Vanilla genus. Despite being one of the most expensive spices, it is highly valued for its taste, which author Frederic Rosengarten, Jr. described in The Book of Spices as ‘pure, spicy, and delicate,’ and for its complex floral aroma, often characterized as having a ‘peculiar bouquet.’
Love is often compared to the sensations this spice evokes—but what happens when it seems like it will taste like vanilla… yet it never does?
Throughout the creative process, the performers were confronted with these questions—not with the intention of answering, representing, or describing them, but rather to explore choreographic stimuli drawn from their own personal experiences. The goal was to create a more genuine moment of shared expression with the audience.”
